Gourcuff going nowhere

Arsenal transfer news: Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff will fight for his place in France

Yoann Gourcuff's agent has rubbished claims the France international could be set for a move in the January transfer window amid reported interest from Arsenal.

According to skysports.com, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder's mixed form for Lyon this season has been the key contributing factor to the constant speculation that currently surrounds Gourcuff's future.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the former Bordeaux and AC Milan star, and has considered an attempt to bring him to north London in a bid to strengthen his Emirates Stadium squad.

However, any hopes Arsenal may still have had of securing Gourcuff's signature have been dealt a significant blow, after Jean-Pierre Bernes confirmed their would be no activity concerning his client this month.
"We talked about that, [but] it would be nonsense to leave," he told France Football. "I can't see any benefit to finding a new club three months before Euro [2012]!"
Gourcuff is in his second season at Lyon, but has struggled with injuries so far this campaign, having been restricted to just seven outings in Ligue 1.
But the talented midfielder is happy to keep plugging away at Stade Gerland, especially as his thoughts are starting to turn towards possible involvement at this summer's European Championships.
